  • Just a word to those of you that are concerned about the possibility of the oil slick reaching the keys. First of all, the slick itself has to get entrained into the Gulf of Mexico’s Loop Current in order for it to have any chance of reaching us which it has not done so yet. Secondly, study after study has been done on the effects of oil on coral reefs and the general consensus is that by the time the oil reaches the keys, it will more than likely be in the form of tar balls, and simply float over the reef without any significant damage to corals or reef fishes. Now, on the flip side, the mangroves and the shoreline will be negatively impacted by the tar balls and we may have a massive clean-up on our hands– that being the worst case scenario. The oil cannot adhere to the corals because of their mucus coating, in fact, researchers have sprayed live colonies with oil only to find that the corals did not suffer any signifcant mortality. If you don’t believe me, then log on to the coral list and see the research for yourself.

This comment is on Richard Watherwax’s Photo of the week. Showing an older lady posing with Chris Vidal naked behind her. I mean SERIOUSLY! That is so not appropriate. I am a very open minded person, as I belive the majority of Key West people are but this is just gross.

    Dear Lori,
Sorry you were offended by my ad. But I want you to know a few facts about the picture. The woman is Viola Veight (daughter of German actor Conrad Veight, who is seen in the final scene of Casablanca walking away from the camera with Bogart as Bogie says “I think we’re going to have a long lasting friendship” (or words to that effect).
But I’m straying…she was a very funny “eccentric” woman, who unfortunately passed on several years ago. She paid me to do the shot, because she was crazy about Vidal…and the idea was hers. And finally, Vidal is not naked–he’s wearing a black thong, with his arm positioned to cover it.
    And that’s the story…

Just thought you all might like to know that the person runnng the Koll campaign is a Dis-barrd lawyer from Wisconsin who used his clients personal accounts for his own use. He took in excess of $400.ooo.oo, which he was required to make restitution and never did. Secondly, he is a dead-beat-dad and is $40,000.00 behind in his child support to his daughter and is currently being prosecuted for Criminal Contempt of Court. Did I mention that he is homeless and claims that he is indigent but out of the same breath he tells the Court that he has a full time job. Mr. Koll if this is the type of people that you are going to hire to help your campaign, then I don’t think that the Monroe County needs you for a Commissioner.

Ken is one of the proud Americans that keep America free. It is a shame that the Congress does not find the time to read his articles.
Why are we Americans letting others take our country, tell us what to do, and how to do it? Do we really know and appreciate freedom? I think not.
Ken keep up the good work. Tell the world what life is like with out freedom. So many of our Americans have given to keep us free.
