MCSO WEBSITE SAYS THAT
TRAUMASTAR TRANSPORT IS
“FREE” TO RESIDENTS BEYOND
WHAT THEIR INSURANCE MIGHT
PAY. NOT TRUE. COUNTY
COMMISSION HAS NEVER
APPROVED ANY SUCH POLICY
by Dennis Reeves Cooper
The Monroe County Sheriff’s
Office (MCSO) continues to
put out false information about
what emergency transport
on the county’s TraumaStar
medical helicopter will cost
citizens being airlifted to Miami
hospitals.
Last year, as county property
owners were being asked
to vote to continue to finance
TraumaStar to the tune of $2
million a year, information on
the Sheriff’s website was telling
voters that, if necessary,
they would be transported via
TraumaStar to a Miami hospital
at no cost beyond what their
insurance might pay.
That information is false
and Sheriff Bob Peryam knows
it’s false— but as of this past
Wednesday, that information
was still on the website.
