Wildlife surrounds
the outside
bar at Hurricane
Joe’s: schools of
snapper, manatees,
Conch terriers, the
staff of Key West
The Newspaper.
Ringed by sport
fishing boats, the
bar is a great place
to enjoy a cold one
while watching the
sunset and listening
to fishermen relax at
the end of the day.
Tonight we were
headed upstairs to
the air conditioned
dining room and
into the gifted hands of Chef Michael McCaffery.
CIA trained, Chef Michael
worked in Nantucket and Boston
before migrating to some
of the best kitchens in Key
West, most notably The Buttery
on Simonton Street. Mike
is tall and slim with a quick
smile and a passion for food.
The fish served at dinner flop
off the boats of the fishermen
downstairs. The fresh catch
for the evening included cobia,
mahi, and hog snapper.”Let me
choose for you,” said Chef Mike.
Oh, happy day!
