Higher Tides Than Normal, Some Flooding Expected over Weekend

The National Weather Service is warning of extremely high tides for the next several days. That means motorists in Key West might be faced with some street flooding, and city officials are reminding drivers to drive slowly in areas of standing water.

According to Jonathan Rizzo of the National Weather Service, the maximum predicted tide in Key West could be well over two feet above the mean low water mark on Saturday. That means possible flooding in some of the historically problematic low areas on the island. Any rain during the high tide events could exacerbate the problem, though none is expected.
